Pick the tool by the artifact you need

Gojo is for the moment where a cursor is already waiting. Hold the shortcut, speak, release, and the final transcript goes to the field that was captured at the start if it is still safe to change. This keeps a reply, task, note, or document moving without creating a transcript project first.

MacWhisper is the better specialist when the audio itself needs a home. Its official site highlights file drag and drop, recording, background transcription for several meeting services, speaker recognition, transcript editing, exports, and batch processing. Those are not side features. They change how someone handles an interview or three-hour recording.

Privacy depends on the model and the follow-up feature

MacWhisper says local models can process sensitive content without data leaving the Mac. Its site also advertises remote and local AI-model connections. If you turn on summaries, chat, or a connected provider, inspect that feature's model choice and policy rather than assuming it has the same boundary as local file transcription.

Gojo's documented local feature does not send audio or transcripts to a cloud recognizer, does not save raw audio by default, and does not log transcript text. That stricter, narrower boundary comes with a cost. Gojo is not a replacement for a transcript editor, a recording archive, or a meeting review tool.

  • MacWhisper advertises local models, offline processing, and transcription for files and app audio.
  • MacWhisper advertises real-time dictation, but also transcript editing, exports, speaker recognition, batch processing, and integrations.
  • Gojo documents local Whisper and Parakeet model choices with direct final-text insertion after focus validation.
  • Unknown pricing, retention, or integration details are not assumed here. Check the current vendor pages before purchase.
